Southwest Airlines Summer of Turbulence

Nobody likes aggressive or hostile takeovers. What’s the start of a summer and turbulent time for the airline with activist investors Elliot management got involved. Having recently invested $1.9 Billon into the airline looking to get rid of Bob Jordan C.E.O. because they don’t like the way he is running the airline.

Since Gary Kelly stepped down and exited the airline has suffered many setbacks and a major meltdown in December 2022. That meltdown was not the first time in 2022 a mini meltdown October 2022. Gary Kelly made milestones and a great Airline during his tenure from 2004 until January 2022. Eighteen years of great leadership that brought the airline to new heights and better service.

July 2024 Southwest has struggled for the last few months and according to various reports somewhat financially and in operations. Not all is to blame from the airline, like others Boeing has created many of the operational problems with the lack of new aircraft deliveries.

This situation can and most probably cause further problems for the airline and a better opportunity for its competition. Having seen and gone through aggressive takeovers it’s ugly and nobody like to be in that situation. There will be casualties if the airline does not take control. We hope all the differences will be resolved and that the airline can focus on the essential part of the company and that’s us the flying public.
