Christmas day 2023 was not as bad as last year for Southwest Airlines. However due to weather in Chicago and some staff shortages many cancellations were experienced on Christmas Day this year.
Other factors came into play with delays for the airline and others fared much better, Wednesday December 27 the Southwest flight 1416 for which in the past four months as Owner / C.E.O. of Fire and Aviation TV we have flown before. An apparent bird strike was experienced therefore after one hour of taking off was back at the gate with an average five-hour delay.
We can only imagine those on board how scared some might have been. The last four months a lot of flying even experiencing an American Airlines Airbus A319 operating without a functioning APU! Even on pushback from the gate on one flight we lost power and have to be restarted from gate power source after sitting powerless in the dark for a while.
JetBlue was another that well let’s just delays, delays, and more delays. Being a very experienced flyer at least with Southwest if one flight gets delayed with a risk of missing a connection. There are other flights and routes available. Had to do that a few times.
We, like millions of other’s want a better 2024 when it comes to flying. A few airlines need some serious improvement, especially if one is merging with another.
