Airlines Versus Outside Investors

True fact but well known after the events is takeovers are ugly. Personally hate them as over the years as editor I have been affected by them. Greed for control and personal gains is all it is. To fatten up the financial bottom line of one’s wallet. This we see with Elliot investment going against Southwest Airlines.

As of November 2024, six directors are stepping down and leaving the airline. Four new ones, from Elliot investment management, will most probably take their place.

Next year Gary Kelly, whom we have the upmost respect for, is leaving February 2025. Elliot wants Kelly to leave far earlier than that. Elliot is gunning for current C.E.O. Bob Jordan out immediately and to take control of the airline’s leadership. Meanwhile the ultimate cost of all these changes will be the flying public.

Elliot has made it crystal clear they are not happy with Southwest Airlines and its technology. Up until late 2023 we have used Southwest Airlines multiple times, and understandable things do not always go the way people want. Since 2024 its been hard to use just one airline. Having to shop for other airlines and one way on one airline and then back another with different routes is a real pain. As many a times it’s been said in the industry stay in your own lane.

Last but not least airports and Boeing have not made it easy for the airline including the latest discrepancies at San Antônio and Southest Airlines. With these challenges which the airline has no dominant control over. Even some airports can be a challenge to deal with as we have experienced as a company. Maybe we should just be aggressive like Elliot investment company?
