October 1 fall begins with a crisp cool morning. Trees sway with shades of brown as the leaves change color. Squirrels scatter across the tress storing food for an upcoming winter. As fall begins seasons will come changes.
For millions affected by Helene from Virginia to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. Monumental tasks will be taken on to recover and rebuild. For many months and for some maybe years to bring it back to a normal life. Others lost lives and family friends and even cities changed forever. Now is the time to put aside differences and come together make this nation a one we all love and respect.
As of this morning October 1, 2024, dock workers strike begins affecting ports from the Northeast all the way across to the Texas coastline. This could severely impact all goods. It could empty retail shelves from products to food and other miscellaneous items we use. Everyday dock workers on strike can severely affect trade and the American economy.
Boeing still after three weeks and continuing to disagree with machinists that make the Boeing airplanes. Earlier this year Boeing locked out its firefighters and that strike went on for some time. Yet a recent C.E.O. departed with a $32 million bonus for leaving the company. Entry level workers on the Boeing production floor get paid $28 hour. On September 11, 2001, when the world trade center was under attack a firefighter running into the buildings turned around and told a person he gets $38 hour to do this. Again, that was 2001 today is 2024. So, what are we doing Boeing? In the end we as the flying public will end up paying the price not the C.E.O. or executive directors who give themselves raises the last ten years. One even got a 262 per cent raise in their wage.
As billions of dollars have been given to airports to rebuild expand and improve. It seems at least one airport C.E.O. has already given just over a million-dollar bonus. Will others follow as they feel its in their best interest? What about the ramp employees? What about individual companies trying to communicate with no response from those who fill their wallets. Preventing people to share the experience they have and ability to make money just by ignoring those is unconscionable. There needs to be a change like the seasons need a change.
October a time to change, rebuild and recover from all this. Now is the time to make things right and get ready for winter. Now is a time to right the ship for 2025 and future years ahead.
Even as time moves forward First Responders, US Military and thousands of people that are there in the devasted areas of the country are helping those that need the help. We as a country need more of those willing to roll up their sleeves and help us rebuild as a new season begins.
